Summer time has arrived and the old dogs want to be out. Now may be the time to try out the Swift Dog Park. 10 acres of doggy heaven. I’m doubtful that when the heat hits it will be owner heaven. There is nary a tree to be found on the site, but hopefully some are in the works. Dogs must be registered to enter the park. Unlike a lot of planned parks Swift figured out that sometimes the little dogs shouldn’t run with the big dogs. The area for 20lb and under dogs is separate and easy to access when you first enter. You won’t have to worry about apologizing to a retriever owner that your Chihauhau beat-up his dog.

Swift Run is a big step up from the park it replaces (just across the road). Indeed, if your dog craves open space and a place in which they can run flat-out, Swift is a great alternative to some of the other parks around. There are some things they should have paid more attention to, namely, drainage, which can be bad in the rainy / thaw seasons and at times turns sections of the park into ankle-deep water and muck. Barring that though, it is a great place to let your dog be a dog while at the same time keeping them safe; indeed wide open yet lined with tall fences. The ‘small’ park within Swift is a great idea, and every time that I have been to said park with my daughter and her dog, the small park’s been in use, thus putting owners of the large and small dogs alike (as well as the dogs themselves) at much greater ease.
Trees and natural cover would have indeed been nice, but alas, I doubt there was much in the budget apart from the land itself and the requisite fencing. Still, it’s a great place for the pups. Enjoy.
