    I came across The Getup by way of cocktail hour.  A friend showed up to a party awhile ago in a great vintage suit and when I inquired where it came from he responded “The Getup”!  Fast forward a few months and I am at a sushi place for happy hour and a different friend shows-up in a pearl-button western style shirt (my favorite) and I ask the same question …and received the same answer “The Getup”.  That cemented my visit to this boutique-style vintage store.  Kelly McLeod and her husband Paul own and run the place and cover everything from 1940′s glamour to 80′s rock.  You can find cool attire and accessories for both men and women ranging from t-shirts to one-of-a-kind belt buckles or gorgeous evening wear pieces.  Kelly buys a lot of her stock from collectors who are selling portions of or entire collections.  When asked what flights her fancy lately Kelly responded, “I’m obsessed with Crinoline.”

    We decided to make The Getup our first piece in our Hip Holiday Shopping …locally series after I walked in with no thoughts of the holidays what-so-ever and left with a handful of presents for under the tree.  Could this mean I won’t be out scrambling on Christmas Eve Day?  Impossible!

    ]]>     http://yaalife.com/hip-holiday-shopping-locally-the-getup-sweet-vintage-clothing/feed/ 1     Sidetrack http://yaalife.com/sidetrack/ http://yaalife.com/sidetrack/#comments Sat, 02 May 2009 13:29:11 +0000 YaaLife http://yaalife.com/?p=99 THIS IS ME YELLING OVER THE NOISE OF THE HARLEYS PASSING BY SIDETRACK’S PATIO IN DEPOT TOWN.  That was charming.  Ok, I’m cranky and am looking for some peace and quiet.  The Harleys are out, I’m sure the train will roar by any minute and I would like to taste one of the best burgers of my life.  I’m setting myself up for the buffeting I’m going to get for saying …this isn’t one of the best burgers of my life!  It’s good and I’ll give the place plenty of kudos for being the kind of place that you want to go on days when you’re cranky and looking to feel better.  But Oprah and GQ?  Top 20 burgers in the country???  …and the sweet potato fries, I was so excited to try the sweet potato fries, then so sad to pick-up the first one and have it bend over the back of my hand.  Shouldn’t fries be a little bit crispy?  Or have some integrity?

    I did like the horseradish sauce …a lot!  Will that compliment save me from the wrath of the Sidetrack loyalists???
