Ahhhh, eve – The Restaurant. The restaurant sits nestled in the charming shops of Kerrytown as if waiting to be found. Eve has been found. I had never been and decided to stop with a friend for wine and appetizers. We sat outside and watched the crowd filter in and out as the dinner hour took over. Although not tiny, I’m guessing most nights the demand for a seat outstrips the availability. Our waitstaff was knowledgeable, friendly (but not too friendly) and attentive. The night was beautiful; wine was good.

We no sooner sat and one of the staff brought out bread accompanied by three different composted butters; guava, fresh herb and smoked salmon. The smoked salmon was light and meshed well with my mood. The guava was also good, but would have suited me for after dinner with a few dessert cheeses. My friend made quick work of it. Next we ordered a shared bowl of the seasonal soup. Our selection that day was a nice tomato base, roasted ramp combination. We ended our appetizer grazing with the Curried Mussels. After sucking out every last little guy, I wondered how often people asked for a take-home container of the left-over sauce. My morning eggs would have been in heaven. Although completely full, we went for dessert. Pots-de-Creme. A few small tastes later I had to hit the bell and bow-out. Considering the ingredients included – half and half, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, instant espresso grains, vanilla, pinches of kosher salt and Brown Sugar Cream – what else could we have expected aside from the complete explosion of mouth happiness. It was like rolling around in thousand-count Egyptian bed sheets. (…which I admit I have only done in a high-end department store. I’m sure security was horrified.) We were finished. The happy haze we left in will bring us back.

Eve, both the restaurant and the owner, believes in supporting local businesses and agriculture. Their supply vendors are small producers and owners who reinforce the “creativity, passion and beauty” of cooking. it shows in the food, ambiance and staff. Enjoy.

THIS IS ME YELLING OVER THE NOISE OF THE HARLEYS PASSING BY SIDETRACK’S PATIO IN DEPOT TOWN. That was charming. Ok, I’m cranky and am looking for some peace and quiet. The Harleys are out, I’m sure the train will roar by any minute and I would like to taste one of the best burgers of my life. I’m setting myself up for the buffeting I’m going to get for saying …this isn’t one of the best burgers of my life! It’s good and I’ll give the place plenty of kudos for being the kind of place that you want to go on days when you’re cranky and looking to feel better. But Oprah and GQ? Top 20 burgers in the country??? …and the sweet potato fries, I was so excited to try the sweet potato fries, then so sad to pick-up the first one and have it bend over the back of my hand. Shouldn’t fries be a little bit crispy? Or have some integrity?

I did like the horseradish sauce …a lot! Will that compliment save me from the wrath of the Sidetrack loyalists???
